Grant Eligibility

The Nennie Foundation provides grant opportunities to cancer patients that are U.S. residents undergoing treatment in the the country. Grants are offered to cover the “hidden expenses” related to cancer diagnosis and treatment, including travel costs, prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, etc. Applications open annually and are accepted during a 6-week window starting in January.

Our 2025 Grant Recipients

  • Vanessa

    A native Washingtonian, Vanessa has battled two separate stage 2 tripe negative breast cancer diagnoses, in 2022 and 2024. Having lost her mother to breast cancer, Vanessa was no stranger to the illness. She was disciplined with her monthly self exams— these exams led to the discovery of both her cancers.

    A strong single mom of two sons, Vanessa has found strength in her family, her church, and a very supportive employer.

    ‍ ‍Despite multiple surgeries and countless chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Vanessa knows she has a lot to look forward to in life. Her positivity is contagious, and she relies on her faith and daily words of encouragement to keep going.

  • Ashley

    In 2018, Ashley was diagnosed with stage four triple negative breast cancer at the age of 30. She went through 15 rounds of chemotherapy, 30 rounds of radiation, and surgery to fight the disease. Six years later, she discovered a recurrence, this time stage five triple negative breast cancer. In total, Ashley has endured 24 surgeries and is currently undergoing radiation. She has a wonderful team of doctors but must travel three hours each way for care.

    A mother of three teenagers, Ashley finds strength in her family. She maintains a positive mindset despite her many challenges.
    The Nennie Foundation is thrilled to be able to help Ashley navigate her treatment. According to Ashley, the financial support “has helped calm my anxiety, allowed me to think clear and really get ahold of tackling this cancer.”

  • Yolanda

    Yolanda, who resides in Georgia, was diagnosed in May of 2024 with stage 2/3 Her2 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. She shares that her biggest challenge with her cancer diagnosis has been finances.
    Yolanda’s greatest support pillars have been her faith and her family, including her husband, her mother before she passed, as well as her sister children. She also has many friends that continue to pray and encourage her along her cancer journey.

    ‍ ‍In addition being kept from enjoying herself with family, the financial burden of treatment also caused Yolanda to struggle with work accommodations. For a time, she and her family had to choose between buying necessities each month or taking days off of work without pay. She was driven to seek other financial sources, which led her to the Nennie Foundation.
